Course Description
The Orff-Schulwerk Teacher Certification courses immerse participants in the Orff approach to music and movement/dance education. Through embodied learning experiences encompassing music, movement, dance, speech/singing, play, and improvisation, participants develop skills and a deep understanding of the pedagogy.
Developed by Carl Orff and Gunild Keetman, Orff-Schulwerk is an inclusive pedagogy, fostering musical qualities inherent in all people through an active and creative learning process. The approach is applicable in all areas of music and movement/dance education including early childhood, primary, secondary, tertiary, studio, therapy, and special education. Levels participants experience first-hand this way of learning and teaching, using elemental foundations of the Orff approach.
Levels 1 and 2 include studies in Movement and Dance, Orchestration and Analysis, Technique and Improvisation, Recorder, Vocal Studies and Pedagogy. A basic knowledge of music notation is required. Please note that this course is physically active; participants are advised to wear comfortable clothing suitable for movement and dance.
