Join us for an inspiring workshop with presenters Susan Curbishley, Sue Lane, and Sarah Powell. Suitable for both trained music teachers and general early childhood educators, these sessions will equip you with new ideas to take back to your classroom. Discover how to integrate movement, rhythm, and play into your curriculum, fostering holistic development and musical proficiency from the earliest years.

Presenters:
Sarah Powell:
Sarah is Lecturer in Creative Arts (Music/Movement) and Deputy Director of Initial
Teacher Education in the Macquarie School of Education, Macquarie University.
She studied Music and Education at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and has
taught for over 15 years across all levels of education (preschool to tertiary).
Sarah’s areas of research include singing, movement, and music with children;
developing teacher and preservice teacher skill and confidence in music
pedagogy; and arts-based research with children. Her doctoral research
investigated masculinity in the Australian context of singing in choir across life
stages. Sarah has presented at conferences and professional development events
locally, nationally, and internationally and has published in international and
national academic and practitioner journals.
Sue Lane:
Dr Sue Lane has had much experience as a music specialist and classroom teacher in a
variety of school settings on the Central Coast of NSW. She worked for many years with pre-
service teachers in Early Childhood and Primary Music and Dance Education programs at the
University of Newcastle and the University of Technology, Sydney. Sue is a Lead Mentor with
Music in Me, the National Music Teacher Mentoring Program and regularly presents teacher
workshops with Musica Viva Australia In Schools and Sydney Symphony Education. Sue
completed her PhD in 2019 and is passionate about her research work related to arts
education provision in Australian primary schools. She has been actively involved with the
Orff Schulwerk Association of NSW for many years, supporting educators in the presentation
of creative music experiences with their students.
Susan Curbishley
Susan Curbishley is a Music Specialist teacher with a broad teaching experience from Preschool to University level. Susan is passionate about music education and enjoys creating music programs to inspire all to find their own musicality. Susan teaches at Charles Weston School, a PYP Primary school in Canberra. This exciting change means she teaches Music K-6 ; Music Play Therapy and also a Music Community Playgroup for the very multicultural community. Susan leads Orff in Canberra and is the treasurer of NSW Orff.
