Course Description:
The Orff-Schulwerk Teacher Certification courses immerse participants in the Orff approach to teaching music. Carl Orff and Gunild Keetman devised this approach to develop musical qualities inherent in all people through an active and creative learning process. It applies to all areas of music education, including early childhood, primary, secondary, tertiary, studio, therapy or special education. Participants in the certification courses experience first-hand this way of learning and teaching, using the skills and techniques specific to the Orff approach.
Levels 1, 2, and 3 will include studies in Movement and Dance, Orchestration and Analysis, Technique and Improvisation, Recorder, Vocal Studies and Pedagogy. A basic knowledge of music notation is required.
Certification is attained through successfully completing all assessment tasks during the course and attending the required 36 face-to-face hours. It is a requirement that each Level is successfully completed before moving to the next Level.

Applications are accepted and confirmed in order of receipt.
Maps of the area, site, etc. will be sent once payment is received, approximately one week before the course.

Group Discount:
10% discount applies for institutions with 2 or more staff attending, on receipt of full payment on or before 11th September 2023 (Please email treasurer@orffnsw.org.au for details of this discount).
Music for Children books:
Music for Children books are required for all Levels courses as follows and can be ordered through Optimum Percussion:
Level 1 – Music for Children Volumes I and II (pentatonic)
Level 2 – Music for Children Volumes II (major: drone bass triads) and III
Level 3 – Music for Children Volumes II, III (major: dominant), IV (minor: bass drone triads)
Recorders:
Recorders are required for all Levels courses as follows:
Level 1 – Descant recorder
Level 2 – Treble recorder
Level 3 – Bass recorder, treble recorder, descant recorder, plus any other melodic instrument
Course Notes:
All course notes will be supplied in an electronic format (via a link) prior to the course. You may wish to download and print these notes or simply download them to your smart device to bring each day. Please note that the venue may not have WiFi capabilities for participants.
Scholarships:
Part scholarships to participants (tertiary students) undertaking Levels 1 or 2 are available on application to the OSANSW President.
Refunds:
80% of the course fee will be refunded if canceled before 11th September 2023. No refund will be given after this date.
